Program Accreditation Meeting

On Sunday and Monday, a special opinion body meeting was held for the Optical and Wireless branches to discuss the teaching portfolio as a basic step to obtain programmatic accreditation, under the supervision of the Quality Assurance and Performance Evaluation Division in the department.

During the meeting, (Assistant Professor Mustafa Ghanem Razouki) provided a detailed explanation of the mechanism for preparing the teaching portfolio, addressing the seven outputs for the two branches with their related performance indicators. The explanation included detailed practical examples for each output to ensure clarity of vision and identification of objectives.

The outputs were distributed to the instructors, two outputs for each instructor, where the distribution was supervised by the heads of the branches:
• Professor Dr. Muhammad Hussein Mari, Head of the Wireless Branch, on Sunday.
• Assistant Professor Dr. Mustafa Diaa Hassib, Head of the Optical Branch, on Monday.

The discussions also included identifying the courses related to the outputs to be the basis for achieving the required standards for accreditation.

This meeting comes within the efforts made to raise the academic and educational level and develop performance in line with the requirements of programmatic accreditation.

 

The Communications Department at the University of Technology, as part of the activities of the Quality Assurance and Performance Evaluation Division, held a workshop entitled “The Importance of Programmatic Accreditation and Its Role in Enhancing the Quality of Education” in the presence of the respected Head of the Department, Assistant Professor Dr. ِAfaneen Anwar Abboud, the Scientific Assistant, Professor Dr. Ali Jabbar Salem, the Administrative Assistant, Assistant Professor Hussam Hussein Ali, the Head of the Optical Communications Systems Engineering Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Mustafa Diaa Hassib, the Head of the Wireless Communications Engineering Department, Professor Dr. Muhammad Hussein Mari, and a large number of the department’s lecturers.

The workshop was delivered by (Prof. Dr. Jalal Mohammed Jalil), who gave a detailed presentation on the educational outcomes required for programmatic accreditation, with a focus on the performance indicators associated with the optical and wireless branch, as the explanation included practical examples for each outcome. The outcomes were also distributed to the instructors for preparation, two for each instructor, with the identification of the courses associated with each outcome to ensure the achievement of the required educational objectives.
The workshop concluded with a speech delivered by the Head of the Department, in which she emphasized the foundations for obtaining accreditation, stressing the importance of scientific research as a basic pillar, and urging instructors to present scientific material in a professional manner that enhances the quality of education.

The esteemed Head of the Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Afaneen Anwar Abboud, presented the Communications Engineering Department Shield to Professor Dr. Jawad Kazem Ali Al-Saadi on the occasion of his retirement, following a distinguished career in administrative, academic, and scientific service. Dr. Al-Saadi is regarded as one of the prominent scientific figures at the University of Technology and is one of the founding members of the Communications Engineering Department.

The department’s staff also celebrated the promotion of Dr. Wael Abdul-Hassan to the rank of Professor and Dr. Hussam Hussein Ali to the rank of Assistant Professor

The Department of Communications Engineering Achieves First Place Nationally in 2024 Ranking

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has announced the results of the National Ranking for the Quality of Iraqi Universities and Academic Departments, where the Department of Communications Engineering secured the first place in its specialization with a remarkable margin of 14 points ahead of the next-ranked department in the field of Communications Engineering.

On this occasion, the Head of the Department of Communications Engineering, Asst. Prof. Dr. Afaneen Anwar Abboud, extends her heartfelt congratulations, appreciation, and gratitude to the honorable University President for his continuous support to the department, and to all the department’s members for their efforts and dedication that led to this outstanding achievement. This recognition reflects their commitment and devotion to serving our university and the department.

Dr. Afaneen emphasized that the department will continue to excel and maintain its leadership through various academic and administrative activities, scientific research, and community service. She further affirmed the department’s commitment to advancing its resources, including equipping laboratories with state-of-the-art devices, increasing the number of research publications in international indexed journals, and enhancing the academic environment and infrastructure of the department.
